Corporation Cup Hat-trick for Chapeltown
Swimming Club
Chapeltown Swimming Club retained
the prestigious Corporation Cup for the 3rd year in a row at the
recent Sheffield & District Championships held earlier this month at Ponds
Forge International pool. The Cup has formed part of the annual gala since it
was first won in 1899; four swimmers from each club compete in an individual
medley of 50m lengths per swimmer. This year’s team for Chapeltown, pictured
and left to right from top row, comprised of Robert Wild (age 17), Tom Bell (age
16), Joe Firth (age 18), and Daniel Fitzgerald (age 9).
As well as sealing their victory in
the Corporation Cup, the Chapeltown squad managed an impressive tally of 47
medals for 1st, 2nd or 3rd places, 28 Personal
Best times, and 17 Yorkshire Region qualifying times. One swimmer, Thomas
Winterbottom, had five 1st places and three 2nd places in
his 8 races.
“It’s a fantastic reflection on the
club to retain The Corporation Cup for three year’s in a row but I’m delighted
with the squads overall performance.” commented Robert Grayson, club coach for
Chapeltown ASC.
