Chapeltown Amateur Swimming Club swimmers Bruce Dickinson (13), Daniel Bates (14), and Thomas Winterbottom (15) picked up Top Boy awards in their respective age groups at the Doncaster Dartes Open Meet, on 19th May. The awards were given to Bruce following this 3 Gold medals, Daniel for his Gold, 2 Silver and a Bronze medals, and Thomas for his 3 Gold and 1 Silver medal; each swimmer received a special plaque in recognition of their efforts.

Fourteen of Chapeltown’s swimmers took part in the competition which was held at Adwick Leisure Centre in Doncaster. In addition to the Top Boy awards, the club came away with 12 Golds, 8 Silvers and 5 Bronzes, as well as a total of 24 Personal Best times. Three of the swimmers also received speeding tickets for beating the cut-off time allowed for the race. Speeding tickets are issued to reward swimmers who perform better than the expected time for a race and therefore don’t qualify for a Gold medal.

Team Manager John Potts was impressed with the team’s performance but especially the three boys taking top awards, “It was a great Meet for both the girls and the boys, but Bruce, Daniel and Thomas had excellent swims and thoroughly deserved their awards.”

The results will Thomas and Daniel to 1st and 3rd place in the Club’s new “Most Competitive Swimmer Trophy”, with Charlotte Peirson in 2nd place. The trophy will be given to the swimmer who accumulates the most points for both attending swimming competitions and the results they achieve throughout the year.
