Local 8 year old swimmer clocks up
her 100 mile Swim Fit award
Hannah Fearn has become the youngest
swimmer at Chapeltown Swimming Club to achieve the 100 mile award on the ASA
Swim Fit scheme. For her efforts in accumulating 100 miles through her training
sessions with the club Hannah received a commemorative paperweight containing a
specially struck ASA gold medal. The club introduced the Swim Fit scheme at the
end of 2006, shortly after Hannah joined, to reward it’s swimmers for their
commitment to training through a series of badges and certificates based on the
miles accumulated in training.
Under the Swim Fit scheme each swim who
wants to take part is issued with a special ASA Record Card where they record
the miles swam under each training session. One of Chapeltown’s coaching team
signs each swimmer’s card after the session and once a milestone is reached
they will receive a Badge and Certificate. Milestones are issued at 1, 5, 10,
15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and so on up to 5000 miles. At a number of key milestones
such as 10 miles, Lapel Pins are also available.
Hannah’s mother, Christine Fearn, the
club’s Competition Secretary, was delighted by her daughter’s achievement,
especially as her son, Ashley, also achieved the same award at 11, “The Swim
Fit scheme is a great way to reward the kids for the time and effort they put
into their weekly training session. As members of the club they not only
benefit from technique and stamina training, but also get general fitness, and
enjoy the many social aspects of the club. Both Hannah and Ashley have worked
hard for the award and we’re delighted with their achievements”.

Hannah was given her certificate and commemorative
paperweight before the start of one the club’s training session by Steve
Swinburn, one of the club’s poolside coaching team.
