PRESS RELEASE

Chapeltown Swimmer chosen for Team GB Water Polo squad

Fifteen year old Sheffield swimmer Harriet Gaydon, who trains with City of Sheffield Water Polo Club at Ponds Forge, and swims for Chapeltown Swimming Club, has been chosen to join the youngest of the Team GB Water Polo squad. Harriet will attend a series of training camps across UK, joining up with fellow water polo players to train at this higher level.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be chosen,” commented Harriet, “there’s no doubt that the combination of the great swimming training, technique and endurance I gain from Chapeltown Swimming Club, along with the superb Water Polo skills I’ve gained at City of Sheffield Water Polo Club, have given me this exciting opportunity.”

Harriet, who plays as goalkeeper and an out player, was introduced to the sport through Chapeltown Swimming Club last year when they ran a min-polo team. Along with other Chapeltown Swimmers, she was then invited to attend a Water Polo academy over several weeks at Sheffield’s Goodwin Sports Centre, before being chosen to join City of Sheffield Water Polo Club.

The first 3 day training camp will be held in Cardiff on Saturday 25th October which will hopefully eventually take Harriet all the way to a future Olympic place.
