Swimming club President retires
after over 25 years of service
83 year old James Hallis, the President of
Chapeltown Amateur Swimming Club is to retire after giving more than 25 years
service to the club. During his time James, known at the club as Jim, has
assisted the Chapeltown ASC in a range of areas including training on the
poolside, refereeing swimming competitions, and several positions on the
committee before being elected as President more years ago than anyone at the
club can remember!
Through his work at Chapeltown, James was
also appointed President of Sheffield Amateur Swimming Association and also
received a special Long Service Award from the Amateur Swimming Association.
Club Chairman, Tom Barlow praised James’
contribution to the club, “Jim’s made an amazing commitment to the club over
such a long period, his work week in and week out has helped thousands of local
swimmers enjoy and improve in the sport of swimming and we’ve been proud to
have him as our President for so long”.
The club took the opportunity of its
annual Presentation Evening to present James with a cut glass decanter and
glasses.
Chapeltown’s long standing Coach, Robert
Grayson has volunteered to take on the role of President pending the club’s
elections at their annual general meeting in February.
