100 mile first for Chapeltown ASC’s Jo-ella Allender
Nine year old local swimmer Jo-ella
Allender has become the first member of Chapeltown Amateur Swimming club to
reach the 100 accumulated miles ASA Swim Fit Award and received a special
commemorative paperweight containing a specially struck ASA gold medal. The
club introduced the Swim Fit scheme at the end of 2006 to reward it’s swimmers
for their commitment to training through a series of badges and certificates
based on the miles accumulated in their training sessions.
Under the Swim Fit Scheme each swim who
wants to take part will be issued with a special ASA Record Card where they
record the miles swam under each session. One of Chapeltown’s coaching team
will sign each swimmer’s card after the session and once a milestone is reached
they will receive a Badge and Certificate. Milestones are available at 1, 5,
10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and so on up to 5000 miles. At a number of key
milestones such as 10 miles, Lapel Pins are also available.
Jo-ella, who has been swimming for
Chapeltown since March 2006, was delighted with her award which was given to
her by the Club coach Robert Grayson at one their weekday training sessions.
“It’s fantastic to be the first to receive the 100 mile award. We work hard at
the training sessions, and it’s great to get something to show for all the
effort,” she said.
