Chapeltown Swimming Club starts bid for 2012 Olympic success

Could you be representing Britain in the London 2012 Olympics? – that’s the question local swimming club, Chapeltown ASC, are asking in their campaign to recruit more young people into the sport of swimming. Following on from the country’s success in Beijing, the club feels this is an ideal time to attract new swimmers to train and compete locally, regionally, nationally, and potentially go all the way to the Olympics.

“China have clearly done a fantastic job locating talent in each sport across the country and Britain needs to do the same; every local sporting club needs to play their part in locating local talent and supporting it through it’s ranks and onward through the sporting levels. If we all do this then we’ll give Britain the best opportunity at being as successful, if not more successful at the London Olympics in 2012,” commented Robert Grayson, Chapeltown’s club coach.

The club feels it is ideally positioned to maximise the local swimming talent after investing in new technology to provide automated poolside training schedules, which free up coaches to advise swimmers on technique, underwater and above water video and analysis systems, and a new gym. The club’s underwater technique analysis camera can be seen in the picture alongside Chapeltown ASC swimmer 10 year old Josh Margerrison who was recently awarded is 100 mile ASA Swim Fit award for accumulated training miles at the club.

“A large part of the success in setting new world records is down to use of new technology in swimming and also the greater emphasis on out-of-water gym training to build up muscles and stamina – Chapeltown is the only club in the area able to offer all these facilities to it’s swimmers”, concluded Robert.
