Eleven year old Barnsley swimmers, Akira Makey (Lundwood), Ryan Dunn (Birdwell), Charlotte Cox (Birdwell), all achieved an impressive 6 Personal Best times during the recent Retford ASC Open Swimming competition held at Ponds Forge international pool in Sheffield.  Competing for Chapeltown ASC, Akira managed a first in the 100 metre breaststroke, 2nd in the 200 breaststroke, 3rd in the 50 metre freestyle, and a 3rd in the 200 metre freestyle, along with two “speeding tickets” in races where she swam faster than the race entry time. Whilst Ryan managed a 2nd in the 200 metre individual medley, a 3rd in the 50 metre freestyle, a 4th in the 100 metre backstroke, a 5th in 50 metre butterfly, and a 5th in 200 metre freestyle, and Charlotte gaining a 1st in the 100 metre backstroke, 2nd in the 200 metre freestyle, 3rd in 200 metre breaststroke, 4th in 50 metre butterfly, and a speeding ticket in 200 individual medley.

Twenty clubs competed in the gala at the international pool, supported by family and friends. Akira and Ryan’s performance, along with their fellow swimmers, helped Chapeltown ASC to an impressive 7th place in the overall competition.

“You can’t ask for more than Personal Bests from swimmers, if they’re achieving these you know they are improving and they are trying their very best,” commented club Coach Robert Grayson. “There’s no doubt we’re starting to see the benefits of the club’s recent investment in new technology for swimming training and our new Gym,” he added.
