Chapeltown Club invites swimmers to 30th
Silver Jubilee Trophy competition
On November 8th Chapeltown
Amateur Swimming Club will host the 30th annual Silver Jubilee Trophy
swimming competition at Chapeltown Baths. The competition was first held by the
club in 1977 to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee and matching Trophies were
donated by Ecclesfield parish council for the winning boy and girl. The
competition is open to swimmers of all ages within the parish of Ecclesfield
who belong to any swimming club which is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming
Association (ASA), and entry is free. Originally swam as a 25 length breaststroke
it was later changed to a 4 x 4 length (swimmers swim 4 lengths of each stroke)
race to make it more interesting for spectators.
Ritchie Dawson, Chapeltown Club’s
representative at Sheffield ASA, is looking forward to another good
competition, “The Jubilee Trophy is always a special competition, we’ve had
some great races in the past and the quality of swimmers in the parish
belonging to various clubs is sure to make this year no exception,” he
commented.
The record for the competition is held by
Zoe Scott for the Girls and Alistair Crawford for the boys.
Swimmers interested in competing for the Trophy,
