PRESS RELEASE

Sheffield swimmer competes in World Masters Swimming Championships at Perth in Australia

Local swimmer Lynne Dawson, who trains and competes with Chapeltown Amateur Swimming Club, recently returned from the 12th Fina World Masters Championships, held in Australia, with 4 top twenty places from her 5 events. The Masters, which attract more than  7,000 swimmers, including several past Olympic swimmers, from around 75 countries, provided competitive swimming for over 25 year olds in diving, open water swimming, synchronised swimming, water polo, and swimming.

Amazingly, 41 year old Lynne, who lectures at Sheffield Hallam University, returned to training at Chapeltown the evening she arrived back from Australia in preparation for her next competition! She commented, “I had a great time and really enjoyed the swimming. The venue, location, and organisation were first rate, and I was delighted with my overall performance against some of the world’s best Masters swimmers.”

This was the second Masters event for Lynne who also took part on the Fina World Masters in 2006 which were held in California, and, through her regular training, reached the qualifying times once again to enable her to compete in the 2008 event which were organised by the world swimming governing body, FINA.

Chapeltown’s club Coach Bob Grayson was proud of her achievements, “Lynne’s a dedicated swimmer, training and competing regularly for the club; we’re all delighted to see her once again at such a prestigious world event, representing the UK, Sheffield, and Chapeltown Swimming club, setting a great example for the younger members of the club.”

The World Masters now move on to the Swedish cities of Göteborg and Borås, in 2010, Lynne’s hoping to reach the qualifying time again and continue mixing her enthusiasm for swimming with seeing new parts of the world.
