The maximum number of (optional) swimming competitions should be one event ideally and two being the maximum per calendar month, with the exception of where a BML is scheduled. This applies to events in March and September.
The reason for this is to ensure that swimmers have the opportunity to recover, train and adapt in sufficient time between competitions. Should parents make a choice to enter their child in external events not agreed by the club or listed within the competition calendar they need to understand the implications of doing so and also that team managers/coaches will not be scheduled to attend those events. In addition to this competitions are quite tiring events for swimmers, often starting early and finishing late, sometimes across a weekend and as such do not enter all available races. Please speak with the coaching team if you need advice.
Yorkshire, NER and National events are invitation only events that typically span/run across multiple dates/weekends. These events are quite tiring for swimmers and it is suggested that a day of two rest/recovery is scheduled after the event. In addition to this swimmers should be eating the same food prior and after competitions, do not change diets the week before a competition as it could have an adverse impact upon performance. Sweets and drinks that contain lots of sugar/caffeine are not recommended at competitions.
